UK rules to know before you pack
No meat or dairy from India
GOV.UK says meat and dairy products cannot be brought or sent into Great Britain from most non-EU countries, including India. That means no chicken or mutton pickle, no ghee or paneer, and care with milk-based sweets.
Gifts above a small value pay VAT
GOV.UK explains that gifts worth more than £39 can attract import VAT, and gifts above a higher value can also attract Customs Duty. The receiver may be asked to pay before delivery, so declare gifts clearly and at their true value.
Controlled medicines cannot be posted
GOV.UK states that medicines containing controlled drugs cannot be posted to someone in the UK from overseas. Send us the names of any medicine before you pack.
Use the full postcode
UK delivery depends on the postcode (for example “B10 0AB”). A wrong or missing postcode is the most common reason for a delay.
Documents needed
- Your ID proof (KYC): a copy of your Aadhaar, passport or PAN card. Courier exports from India are declared electronically under CBIC’s courier regulations, and the sender’s identity is part of that declaration.
- Contents list: every item with quantity and a fair value, for example “3 cotton kurtas” or “1 kg mango pickle, homemade”. Mark gifts as gifts.
- Receiver’s details: full name, house number and street, town or city, full UK postcode and a UK mobile number.
- Business shipments: a commercial invoice, plus the exporter’s IEC and GST details where they apply.

Packing tips for the UK
- Use a strong, right-sized carton. A box that is too big adds volumetric weight.
- Seal jars with cling film under the lid, tape the lid, then double-bag each jar in zip-lock bags.
- Vacuum-seal or double-bag sweets, snacks and spices so smells and oil stay inside.
- Wrap fragile items separately and fill every gap so nothing moves.
- Write the receiver’s address and phone clearly, and put a copy inside the box.

Items you cannot send
Every carrier and country keeps its own list, but these are refused almost everywhere:
- Cash, currency, cheques and precious metals
- Weapons, ammunition, explosives and fireworks
- Flammable items: lighters, matches, fuel, paints, many aerosols and perfumes
- Loose lithium batteries and e-cigarettes
- Narcotics and any medicine not checked with us first
- Counterfeit goods and anything illegal in the UK
Medicines have special rules: read sending medicines abroad.
How the price works
We do not publish a fixed rate card because carrier rates change. The courier price to the UK depends on the carrier and the chargeable weight: whichever is higher of the actual weight and the volumetric weight. Volumetric weight is length × width × height (cm) ÷ 5000. For example, a 50 × 54 × 34 cm box has a volumetric weight of 18.36 kg, even if it weighs less on the scale. Try your box:
Send us the weight, box size and contents on WhatsApp and we will share today’s price for the UK.

What details do I need for the receiver in the UK?
The receiver’s full name, house number and street, town or city, full UK postcode and a UK mobile number. Along with this we need your ID proof (Aadhaar, passport or PAN) and a list of the items with their values.
How is the courier price to the UK calculated?
The price depends on the destination, the carrier and the chargeable weight. Carriers charge whichever is higher: the actual weight or the volumetric weight (length × width × height in cm ÷ 5000). Send us the weight and box size on WhatsApp for today’s price.
Does the receiver in the UK have to pay tax on a gift?
Possibly. GOV.UK says gifts above £39 can attract import VAT, and more valuable gifts can attract Customs Duty too. The receiver usually pays this to the carrier before delivery.
