Many families in Hyderabad want to send medicines to parents, children or relatives living abroad: a regular prescription, Ayurvedic or Unani products, or simple tablets they trust from home. Medicines are on the list of items we send, but every country controls medicines closely. A little preparation saves your parcel from being held or returned.
Golden rule: before you buy or pack anything, send us the medicine names and the destination country on WhatsApp. We will tell you what is possible.
Papers to keep ready
- Doctor’s prescription in the receiver’s name, clearly showing the medicine names and dosage.
- Pharmacy bill for the medicines.
- Sender ID proof (for example Aadhaar or passport copy) and the receiver’s full address and phone number.
- A contents list with each medicine name, quantity and value.
Keep quantities for personal use
Countries usually treat a small, personal-use quantity very differently from a large stock that looks like it is for sale. Send only what the patient actually needs and keep medicines in their original strips or boxes with labels.
What some countries say
USA
The U.S. FDA’s personal importation page explains that, in most circumstances, individuals are not allowed to import drugs for personal use, and that FDA uses limited discretion in some cases. Medicines for the USA need checking case by case.
UK
GOV.UK has guidance on taking medicine in or out of the UK, and states that medicines containing controlled drugs cannot be posted to you from overseas.
Canada
Health Canada’s guidance says Canadian residents are generally not permitted to import prescription drugs by mail or courier.
UAE (Dubai) and the Gulf
The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) runs an online e-permit service to import medicines for personal use. Controlled medicines need special approval. Other Gulf countries have their own rules.
Items to never send
Do not send narcotic or psychotropic medicines, injections or anything that needs refrigeration without asking us first. Do not hide medicines inside food or clothes; always declare them.
