Netherlands rules to know before you pack
No meat or dairy
The European Commission says personal consignments of meat and dairy products from non-EU countries are not allowed.
Import VAT
Parcels from outside the EU go through Dutch Customs, and import VAT can apply to almost any value. The receiver may pay before delivery.
Postcode plus house number
Dutch addresses rely on the postcode (format “1234 AB”) plus the house number and any addition such as “2-hoog”.
Phone and email
Carriers contact the receiver by phone or email about customs, so share both.
Documents needed
- Your ID proof (KYC): a copy of your Aadhaar, passport or PAN card. Courier exports from India are declared electronically under CBIC’s courier regulations, and the sender’s identity is part of that declaration.
- Contents list: every item with quantity and a fair value, for example “3 cotton kurtas” or “1 kg mango pickle, homemade”. Mark gifts as gifts.
- Receiver’s details: full name, street, house number and addition, postcode (1234 AB), city, phone number and email.
- Business shipments: a commercial invoice, plus the exporter’s IEC and GST details where they apply.

Packing tips for the Netherlands
- Use a strong, right-sized carton. A box that is too big adds volumetric weight.
- Seal jars with cling film under the lid, tape the lid, then double-bag each jar in zip-lock bags.
- Vacuum-seal or double-bag sweets, snacks and spices so smells and oil stay inside.
- Wrap fragile items separately and fill every gap so nothing moves.
- Write the receiver’s address and phone clearly, and put a copy inside the box.

Items you cannot send
Every carrier and country keeps its own list, but these are refused almost everywhere:
- Cash, currency, cheques and precious metals
- Weapons, ammunition, explosives and fireworks
- Flammable items: lighters, matches, fuel, paints, many aerosols and perfumes
- Loose lithium batteries and e-cigarettes
- Narcotics and any medicine not checked with us first
- Counterfeit goods and anything illegal in the Netherlands

How the price works
We do not publish a fixed rate card because carrier rates change. The courier price to the Netherlands depends on the carrier and the chargeable weight: whichever is higher of the actual weight and the volumetric weight. Volumetric weight is length × width × height (cm) ÷ 5000. For example, a 50 × 54 × 34 cm box has a volumetric weight of 18.36 kg, even if it weighs less on the scale. Try your box:

How do I send a courier from Hyderabad to the Netherlands?

Can I send food or pickles to the Netherlands?
The European Union does not allow personal parcels of meat or dairy products from non-EU countries such as India. That rules out chicken, mutton and prawn pickles, ghee, paneer and khoya-based sweets. Veg pickles, spices, dry snacks and packed sweets without dairy are the safer choice; tell us exactly what is inside.
What details do I need for the receiver in the Netherlands?
The receiver’s full name, street, house number and addition, postcode (1234 AB), city, phone number and email. Along with this we need your ID proof (Aadhaar, passport or PAN) and a list of the items with their values.
